Reflections from Sgt Nelson Berger (dec 19, 2002)
Thirty five mission in 103 days. Do not know if that is a record or not but must be close. Those days included a week of R&R between missions 30-31. One of the many things I remember about the tour I call coincidence or luck of the draw. We flew on the first shuttle raid to Russia-Italy-England. On the flight from russia to Italy the group landed at the wrong base. While standing around on the flight line waiting for things to get straightened out two G.I.'s rode by on bicycles, George Baytos-TTE-said that one looked like his brother and sure enough it was! They had not seen each other for nearly two years. When we landed at the correct base which was only a short distance away George mentioned the event to the commanding officer. He told George to go to the motor pool and check out a Jeep and go spend time with his brother. With us being in Italy for ten days he did get to visit several times.
