Note that when searching for an aircraft serial number, you must enter the full serial number without the leading "4" and without a dash in the Aircraft SN search field. For example, you would enter 42-37772 as 237772.

The Personnel name field searches both last and first names, so if you enter the search term, "Russ", the search engine will return both Russell Abel and James Russell.

You narrow the search by entering more characters into the search field. For example, "Russ" returns many hits. "Russell" returns fewer hits. The same principle applies to all queries.

The POW and KIA categories are list only and are not searchable.

This crew lost to Enemy Aircraft about 15 miles East of Berlin after mechanical difficulties made it impossible to maintian formation.

 Eyewitness:
  "Lt Chapman feathered one engine; then unfeathered it near Dummer Lake about 1240 hours. He continued with the formation,    although straggling, to the I.P. where he was attacked by three enemy fighters. Our escort went down and picked him up. His A/C    was under control when last seen"        _Lt. Shoens

  "Saw A/C leave 2nd element, high squadron at 1240 hours near Dummer Lake"      Lt. Harper

  "Chapman, flying lead, 2nd element, high squadron, lagged at 1357 hours near 5150N and 1054E No#1 engine was feathered    and unfeathered."    Lt Massol
