Database Search

You are in the database section of the website.

Select a record category from RECORDS above. When you have selected a category, you will see search options for that category above the record list.

Most fields require at least three characters. When you submit your query, the search engine will return all records that contain your search term.

Note that when searching for an aircraft serial number, you must enter the full serial number without the leading "4" and without a dash in the Aircraft SN search field. For example, you would enter 42-37772 as 237772.

The Personnel name field searches both last and first names, so if you enter the search term, "Russ", the search engine will return both Russell Abel and James Russell.

You narrow the search by entering more characters into the search field. For example, "Russ" returns many hits. "Russell" returns fewer hits. The same principle applies to all queries.

The POW and KIA categories are list only and are not searchable.

T/Sgt Terrell Questions

Mike,

I'm sorry, my dad is Vernon L. Terrell. No, we're not a member of the foundation. As a matter of fact we didn't know about the web site or the foundation until Brian told us about it on Thursday. I feel like I'm behind and playing catch up for Daddy. I was wondering do you know if Bert Cassles & L. A. Daniel are still living? Yes, Daddy did keep a journal. However, I've not be able to scan this in yet. I've been working on this project a little at a time with the pictures and I hope to do the journal after the pictures. Daddy has some health issues where his eye site is not the best in the world due to diabetes. No, I doubt that Daddy will come to Cleveland. I wished that he would .

He really enjoyed going to see the B-17G. No, he didn't get to fly in the ole girl either. We're looking forward to it coming back next year. I hope that you'll keep us posted about the time and date.

Thanks for your time and I'm excited to show Daddy your work on the important part of history. Thanks for keeping it alive and well for the next generation to learn of these brave men and their contribution to our Country.

Sincerely,
LeAnn Myers

Questions for your DAD:

1. I show that Lt Daniel became the Crew Bombardier on July 14th, why was Lt Wood Replaced as Bombardier on the Crew?
2. I show S/Sgt Casseles as Ball Turret Gunner until August 13th and then is replaced on the crew by S/Sgt Grimes. What happened?
3. What happened to Tail Gunner Londra, he is with crew till end of August. He flies 12 missions and flies no more missions. Do not show him hurt or wounded, what happened? Removed From Flying Status??? When Jenkins comes on Crew as new pilot, S/Sgt W.H. Frederick (original Waist Gunner) from Capt Joe Zellers crew comes onboard as tail gunner until after the Russian Shuttle mission. He will be replaced by William Lombardi (also from original Zeller Crew )
4. Is waist Gunner Wickland taken off the Crew to reduce to Nine men? I see they let him fly one mission as tail gunner after Londra left Crew but they did not keep him there, WHY.

Dear Mike,

Sorry for the delay in getting this to you. Daddy has had several dr visits lately so...

1. Daddy didn't know why they took Wood off. "July 10, 1944 Lt. Kohler and Lt Wood were taken off the crew this morning and was great shock to all of us. We were given Lt Kennedy for first pilot, Lt Christivitch as Nav. Dick Lennox our toggaldier was also taken off. Loomis and I had to go fly with Lt. Kennedy to shoot some landings."

2. S/Sgt. Casseles got "flaked up". The crew took him to the Flight Surg. for an evaluation. He was grounded that very same day.

3. Tail gunner Londra tried to do the same thing as S/Sgt Casseles but the Flight Surg. busted him and he was trasferred to the USO division because of his singing talent. Daddy said that he sing real good and would sing them home after a bomb run.

4. Daddy didn't know why they took Wickland off the crew.

5. According to the journal, "June 12, 1944 Lt Louros, the Nav. that came over with us was shot down over Dunkirk but all bailed out and were picked up." " June 13, 1944 Lt. Louros hasn't came back yet and we heard today that only five of the crew had been picked up." June 16, 1944 Lt. Louros was reported missing in action today and supply picked up his clothes." He just said "That's all in it"

6. Paul Kohler was a good pilot but, he would find something mechanically wrong with the plane and come back to the base. Daddy said that "he was scared that he was going get them killed."

7. Hudak was happy being the CP. He did save their lives on July 14,1944 their new pilot missed the runway beacuse of fog and Hudak took the stick and gave it full throttle. They missed the ground by about four-five feet. After two more tries they landed. Daddy was glad to be on the ground. They shot flare at the end of the runway for them to see it.

8. "33 missions is correct. Loomis, Dech and I got off with this number because we aborted so many missions while P. E. Kohler was pilot. He was just too scared we were going to get killed."

9. See the attached journal entries.

10. See the attached journal entries.

11. See the attached journal entries. Daddy was surprised to hear about a museum dedicated to that mission.

I hope that this helps you some. I will get those pictures to you soon. Let me know what you think.

Sincerely,

LeAnn Myers
