Note that when searching for an aircraft serial number, you must enter the full serial number without the leading "4" and without a dash in the Aircraft SN search field. For example, you would enter 42-37772 as 237772.

The Personnel name field searches both last and first names, so if you enter the search term, "Russ", the search engine will return both Russell Abel and James Russell.

You narrow the search by entering more characters into the search field. For example, "Russ" returns many hits. "Russell" returns fewer hits. The same principle applies to all queries.

The POW and KIA categories are list only and are not searchable.

EYEWITNESS DESCRIPTIONS OF CRASH

Report:
"A/C 608 was hit in the #2 engine by flak at 1210 hours in target area. The engine caught fire but was quickly put out as it pulled away from our formation. It then pulled under our group but  began to fall back when #4 engine was also feathered. Later #4 started running again and it was thought to be this aircraft that followed our formation 20 to 30 minutes then was seen to go into the undercast near 5051N - 1067E with 8 P-51's escorting."

REPORT:

On 28 Sep 44, T. L. Gotz was not aboard the A/C and  Robert  Minear was flying as engineer. S/Sgt Jack D. Francisco was aboard as tail gunner and became a POW. Crew was on it's eighth mission.
