350th qdn. Crew, as above, joined 100th
Group on 25/8/43. In a letter of 28/11/83,Don Mitchell states: "Of our original crew four of the
original crew members four were replaced after the first few missions by T/Sgt Charles N. Mabey E, T/Sgt
John K. Beard R, Woodrow W. McCurry G, and S/Sgt Fay A. Hulsey G. These
four finished their combat tours, but , am not sure of the dates on any of
them." Actually, John Beard was on the "Original" crew of C. L. Duncan. He
had not flown when the Duncan crew went down on 10/7/43.
This crew flew its first mission on 3/9/43 (Paris) in the
A/C "Hard Luck". NO# 42-3413After Munster on 10/10/43,they were assigned a
new B 17G (074) "CAHEPIT" in which they finished their tour.
Mitchell is searching for a photo of A/C 818 taken by
Carl Davidson over Paris on 15/9/43. Photo shows 12 bombs just below the
bomb bay. A/C 42 30818 was flown by W.H. McDonald. |
