His mission log is filled with rough misions, noteable the three trips to Meresburg, one of which was recalled, and the 26 Nov 44 Hamm misison. There are several other trips to the Rhur area ("Happy Valley"). These targets were well protected by Flak batteries and were always contested by the Luftwaffe.

During his combat tour Lt. Goodwin acted as Assistant Engineering Officer of the 350th Squadron as an additional duty. Upon completing his combat tour, Nov 30, 1944 Merseburg, Ger., he moved to Group Engineering and later became the Engineering Officer of the 349th.

Mr. Goodwin remained in the service after WW II until his retirement. He resides in Hot Springs Village, AR as of 1994. He has served the 100th Bomb Group Association as it's Treasurer since the organization was formed. "Butch," to all the members of the 100th, is one of the most respected and well known of the 100th airmen.
