349th Sqd.. Crew, as
above, joined the 100th in Nov. 1944 and finished their tour of 35
missions in April 1945 intact and with no injuries.
Letter to Jim Brown from Dave Wood 19 Mar 1986:
Wood writes that BTG Frank Volk voluntarily remained in the ball
(after they were hit by flak over Berlin) to determine the location of the
damage and the amount of fuel being lost. This act of bravery was not
without considerable risk. After a tense half hour, Wood continues, the
leaking stopped and they returned safely to Thorps Abbotts. |
