McGuire and Eck are both buried at Omaha Beach. This was the 12th mission for the crew with the exception of Eck who was on his second. John M. Jones was the Bombardier of this crew but on 28 Apr 44 he was flying as Navigator. The Navigator of this crew when they joined the 100th was Eluid J. Knapp who CPT in August 1944 and was transferred to S2...jb

From statements by John M. Jones and Randell L. Bradley after their release from POW camp, it is apparent the aircraft exploded before all crewmembers had time to bail out. Jones, the Bombardier, flew this mission as Navigator and broke a leg when landing. On 2 May 44 the seven KIAs in this aircraft were buried in the English Cemetery in Cherbourg. This aircraft and that of Col Kelly and Capt William Lakin were shot down near Tamerville about three miles north of Valognes. jb
