S/Sgt James F. Cooper TG NOC
Sgt Dominick J. Zumbo WG NOC (taken off when crews reduced to 9 men)

349th Sqdn. Crew, as above, joined 100th Group on 2/8/44.

Crew rosters of 3/9/44 & 30/9/44 list this as Crew #7 but Sgt. Zumbo not on crew. He was removed when crews reduced from ten to nine men. After looking at S/Sgt Dollar's diary, it appears this crew became a 349th Lead Crew in the month of November 1944 and flew their first element lead on 2 Dec 1944 at Koblenz.

Micro film Casualty report of 29/12/44 shows Lt. Bailey as wounded. Lt. Bailey got hit in the leg just below the knee. The piece that hit him came right through the left rudder pedal. "

Comments: When looking at the crew list for the 349th Sqdn under Lt Walter E. Bailey I noticed a question mark as to an injury to the Lt. on 29/12/44. My Father-in-Law, Lt. Anthony Linakis, was the navigator of this crew and I have a copy of the bombardier’s log for his "35". The log states - Frankfurt Germany -"……Lt. Bailey got hit in the leg just below the knee. The piece that hit him came right through the left rudder pedal. " If you are interested in any other info on this squadron, the log I have covers from Aug 14, '44 to Dec 29. '44. Interesting the log was titled My "35" but they only flew 31…Patrick Gallagher Link to log is at the top of this webpage.
