Richard was attached to the flight crew of 2nd Lt.
Wesley G. Stansbury as a replacement for Lt. John Goethel, BOM.
On a mission to Merseburg, his ship was struck while returning to
base by the aircraft of Lt. A.S. Spear and both ships were lost over
the north Atlantic. There was only one survivor.
